WAMP stands for Windows, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. WAMPServer is a software that installs the libraries for these programs and languages on your Windows operating system (Hence, the ‘W’ is for Windows). There are also similar programs for Linux and macOS, known as LAMP and MAMP, respectively.

WAMPServer is a virtual server installed on your computer used to host webpages locally. Since it is locally installed on your system and not linked to the internet, you may test out all of the WordPress functions without worrying about any repercussions.
