What is a PCX File?
The PCX file can contain 1-bit black and white images, 8-bit grayscale images, or 24-bit colored images, compressed using RLE encoding. At one point in time, the PCX file format was used as the default bitmap image format on the DOS/Windows operating system. However, the format has become (almost) obsolete and replaced with newer, modern imaging formats.
Some fax and scanning machines still use this format to store images.
