What is an XCF File?
XCF stands for “Experimental Computing Facility” which is a group of students who created the format. The XCF imaging format is the native format of the GIMP image editing software, which includes other information about the image, such as its layers, paths, channels, guides, etc.
The XCF format is backward compatible, which means it can work with older GIMP versions. Not only that, but it is also forward compatible in some cases.
